Conditions Treated
Clinical expertise across complex psychiatric illness.
I am an adult psychiatrist and psychopharmacologist with special interest in mood and psychotic disorders. I offer evaluation and treatment to patients 18 and older, as well as specialized consultation for patients with concurrent neurological problems.
Bipolar Affective Disorder
Diagnosis and pharmacologic management of bipolar I, bipolar II, and related mood disorders, including bipolar illness with psychotic features. My research background includes the molecular mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of common mood stabilizers such as lithium.
Schizophrenia & Psychotic Disorders
Evaluation and long-term management of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and other psychotic illness, including cases complicated by comorbid OCD, substance use, or social withdrawal. Where appropriate I coordinate with coordinated specialty care and early psychosis programs.
Unipolar Major Depression
Careful diagnostic reassessment and medication management for major depression, including patients who have not responded adequately to prior antidepressant trials.
Neuropsychiatry & Degenerative Disease
Substantial clinical experience managing complex neuropsychiatric syndromes in individuals with coexisting neurologic disease, including inherited and autoimmune forms of neurodegeneration and dementia, informed by years consulting to the UCLA Huntington's Disease Center of Excellence and Neurogenetics Clinic.
Autism
Evaluation and care for autistic adults, including later-recognized autism obscured by masking, and the anxiety, OCD, ADHD, mood, and psychosis-spectrum conditions that frequently accompany it.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Medication evaluation and management for OCD, with referral to therapists who provide exposure-based and cognitive-behavioral treatment when indicated.
Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Adult ADHD evaluation and ongoing treatment. If you have taken stimulant medication for years without difficulty, there is no need to change medications unless the initial visit reveals that the medication is doing active harm.
Opiate Addiction (Suboxone)
Office-based treatment of dependence on prescription or recreational opioids with buprenorphine/Suboxone, for either ongoing maintenance or detoxification.
Personalized Medicine & Genomics
Application of pharmacogenomic and neurogenetic insight to medication selection, drawing on postdoctoral training and publications in neurogenetics and neuropharmacology.
